About Crystal

Crystal Moll, originally from Virginia Beach, earned her BFA from Moore College of Art & Design. She's made Baltimore her home since the late 80's, and is a full-time fine artist.

Crystal paints mostly cityscapes and works directly from life, on location in the plein air tradition. Baltimore and the surrounding areas serve as her studio, as she only paints on location. Her work often requires multiple visits to the site, over weeks.

Crystal is drawn to color, especially as it is bathed in light. Investigating the colors' reaction as it is warmed in sunlight or cooled in shadows draws her to the subjects she paints.

  • On Location

    Ever since Crystal started working from life on the streets of Baltimore in the late '80's, she chose to never return to a studio. Each painting requires several visits to a site to complete.

  • Painting Progress

    Each painting starts with an underpainting. This allows Crystal to focus on the drawing of the piece day one. Then the color play begins. The number of days is dictated by the complexity of the painting.

  • Prints

    Many of Crystal's works are available as signed limited edition prints in a few different sizes. These giclee's are printed on Hahnemuhle German etching paper with the finest archival inks insuring logevity.
